SKID SAFE
Water Based Sealer & Finish

Product Data Sheet

DESCRIPTION AND USE:

SKID SAFE is an aqueous emulsion of modified thermoplastic resins and their esters. It is ready for use and has an indefinite shelf life. It has an extremely mild odor which is barely noticeable indoors and is non combustible. SKID SAFE appears milky white and will dry to a water clear appearance with a high gloss of 90 on the Gardner Scale. The carrying agent is water. It delivers unusually high slip resistance to applied flooring materials, and makes most floor materials more slip resistant in a dry condition, and almost as slip resistant in a wet condition.

True traction can be created by broadcasting our ND AGGREGATE™ lightly onto it when SKID SAFE is freshly applied to the flooring material according to our DIRECTIONS and on top of previously installed coatings, sealers, finishes, and paints in good condition. SKID SAFE used this way can be a cost effective replacement for anti-slip mats and anti-slip strips. SKID SAFE either applied with or without ND AGGREGATE™ does not require either stripping nor burnishing at anytime. This fact can save substantial time and money over normal maintenance procedures commonly needed with sealers/finishes. Yes, it can be stripped and burnished.

SKID SAFE may be applied to all masonry such as concrete, marble, terrazzo, brick, to all stones, to all wood, to all metals, to all tiles (new and used), and to all grout lines. Before applying SKID SAFE to Ceramic Tiles it is required to use SUPER BOND & CLEAN™. SUPER BOND & CLEAN™ is our innovative product which creates a superior bond for SKID SAFE assuring excellent and permanent adhesion to the substrates above. We believe it has many excellent advantages and replaces the need for muriatic acid and for shot blasting on concrete use CONCRETE BOND & CLEAN™. It is more cost effective to use. It will brilliantly clean old oils, greases, and most stains making old concrete appear like new! It does not harm paints nor finishes/coatings. Therefore, paints, coatings/finishes which are no longer desired on a floor area must be stripped off before using SUPER BOND & CLEAN™. That is why our proprietary GROUT COATING is first applied on precleaned, and/or stripped ceramic tile. Then, SUPER BOND & CLEAN™ is used, and then, SKID SAFE is applied over the tiles and grout lines.

Once SKID SAFE has been applied, multiple freeze/thaw cycles have no ill affect. It "breathes" allowing moisture vapors to escape while locking out water and providing excellent repellency. Although SKID SAFE does not require stripping, it may be stripped both chemically and by severe abrasion by sandpaper, for example. It is cleanable with plain water, or with a very high dilution with water of our cleaner at anytime and may be cleaned daily. Severe pounding and very heavy weight on it such as vehicles has no affect! Extremely heavy foot traffic has shown little affect over many years. Dulling or worn areas can quickly be restored to match the high gloss of the rest of the sealed area with a reapplication on needed areas. Correct burnishing will bring back much of the high gloss.

SKID SAFE can be applied as a sealer before painting a floor area or before applying any other selected coating and it offers protection to the substrate from crumbling, spawling, and water damage. In addition, SKID SAFE will extend the spread rate of the paint or other selected coating applied on top.

SKID SAFE can be applied on top of any other coating/finish in good condition for added slip resistance or traction(with aggregate applied into it), and for longer life of the sealed coating/paint with improved appearance. It will bring back the color of faded paint and this paint will not re-fade nor re-oxidize. The application of a new paint color or new coating over applied SKID SAFE even after many years can be done and save the cost of stripping the old paint/coating!

SKID SAFE does not yellow, peel, flake, crack, nor chip. Heat up to 600° F does not affect SKID SAFE.

APPLICATION DIRECTIONS:

Use SKID SAFE Water Based Sealer/Finish straight from the bottle. Do not shake. Do NOT dilute with water!
Pre-clean all flooring materials/paints-new or used- with a NEUTRAL CLEANER (PH of 7) to degrease and remove all residues. Allow porous materials such as limestone, marble, etc. to thoroughly dry out before applying SKID SAFE for about 24 hours.

1. All selected floor areas/substrate materials/painted floors to be sealed MUST BE CLEAN AND THOROUGHLY DRY TO THE TOUCH before applying SKID SAFE. New materials and used flooring contain residues which should be first removed.

2. New and used floor materials should be pre-cleaned with a neutral cleaner (PH of 7) with the exception of concrete and ceramic tile. Unsealed concrete requires the use of our CONCRETE BOND & CLEAN™. Sealed or painted concrete requires cleaning with a NEUTRAL CLEANER (Do NOT use CONCRETE BOND & CLEAN™ on those concrete floors!). Unsealed ceramic tile requires the use of our SUPER BOND & CLEAN™ which both cleans and uniquely insures proper adhesion of SKID SAFE to the tiles when the tile is washed at anytime after SKID SAFE has CURED-96 hours. If the tile/grout lines have ever been previously sealed with a sealer or finish, do not use SUPER BOND & CLEAN™ because it will not function to insure proper adhesion of SKID SAFE. Simply clean the tile with a NEUTRAL CLEANER (PH of 7) before applying SKID SAFE and or ND AGGREGATE™.

3. Previously sealed tile and grout lines require the use of a quality stripper to free all grout line pores when either you wish to apply our GROUT COATING, or when the old seal is not desired. Any old seal/finish should be stripped from concrete and ceramic tiles if it is not in acceptable condition. You may purchase a good floor stripper at a janitorial store. Buy a NEUTRALIZER also to neutralize the floor after stripping and removal of all liquids perhaps with a wet vac. Also purchase a NEUTRAL CLEANER from a janitorial store for before and after cleaning. NOTE: Failure to properly remove all stripper residue and neutralize the floor prior to sealing with our SKID SAFE is LIKELY to cause SKID SAFE to look and perform in a substandard manner.

4. Unless being used outside, we suggest the use of a good blower or fan to speed the drying time. We suggest that masonry, wood, and stones be allowed to dry out for 24 hours to insure that all moisture has evaporated from below the surface and throughout the substrate material.

5. On concrete use our CONCRETE BOND & CLEAN™ after the old concrete has been stripped and is dry to the touch. On ceramic tile and grout lines, either first apply our Grout Coating to the pre-cleaned or stripped tile, or, if the grout line appearance of either new or used tile is acceptable and no Grout Coating is desired, use SUPER BOND & CLEAN™ prior to sealing it with SKID SAFE.

6. After proper floor area preparation for sealing as stated above, SKID SAFE may be applied to porous/rough materials and on larger areas using an airless sprayer with a tip size of 0.015 or 0.013 at 300-500 PSI which produces a mist of SKID SAFE on the floor area. Also, a low pressure hand pump sprayer at 35 PSI may be used. Apply SKID SAFE by slowly moving the tool over the floor area so that you can clearly see the wetness of our product as it is being applied. A heavier base coat can be applied which will entirely soak into the substrate. When the entire area has been sprayed with SKID SAFE, allow it to dry to the touch with the use of a blower before applying the next coat and subsequent coats which should occur in about 20 minutes or less. We recommend a total of 4 single coats be applied.

On smooth non porous floors use either a quality sponge mop (use a urethane type sponge material that doesn't fall apart or shred like yellow sponges), or an artificial lamb's wool applicator, or a brand new pre-rinsed and DRY cotton mop. All mops/tools - new or used - MUST BE pre-washed and dried before use! We advise having several of your selected application tools available, and we advise that you place the tool in a bucket of SKID SAFE while you are waiting for each coat to dry to avoid the tool being sealed with SKID SAFE during this drying process.

A. Dip your application tool into WET SKID SAFE in a bucket or tray. Insure the tool is not dripping SKID SAFE before applying to the floor.

B. Draw the SKID SAFE wet tool across a floor area until no more wetness is seen on the floor. It is not necessary to rub the tool on the floor.

C. Re wet the tool in SKID SAFE and continue to apply where you left off until the entire area has been treated with the first coat.

D. See ND AGGREGATE™ DIRECTIONS if you are applying ND AGGREGATE™.

E . Any missed spots can be touched up now by applying more finish to those spots.

F. Use a blower on the floor to blow dry this coat and on all 4 subsequent applied coats. Open windows for ventilation.

G. When this coat and all others are absolutely DRY TO THE TOUCH known by feeling the floor, apply the second coat by repeating the above procedures.

H. Apply coats 3 and 4 similarly.

I. After the 4th and final coat is dry, allow the entire application to CURE. This means that the water portion of SKID SAFE has evaporated, but the non water elements of our unique product needs to harden. This process takes about 96 hours under conditions of moderate to low humidity.

Do not apply our product in high humidity as doing so will extend both drying and curing times considerably!
Clean all tools with water after use to easily remove all SKID SAFE from the tool and preventing it from being sealed-hard and ruined!

7. Now, after the final 4th coat has been applied secure the area and allow it to dry and start the curing process for 24 hours on all areas where vehicles will pass such as concrete garages. We suggest that you test an area of the garage to see that no damage is occurring to SKID SAFE when driven on after 24 hours. If there is any damage, allow it to cure for 96 hours before use.

SKID SAFE REQUIRES 96 HOURS TO CURE WHICH MEANS THAT IT WILL GET HARD AND IT WILL GET HARDER OVER TIME. On areas where only light foot traffic will pass, secure this area for at least 8 hours from all. We suggest that you cover this floor with cardboard secured to avoid it being kicked around for 96 hours so that SKID SAFE can CURE. That means that the non water elements in the product will get hard, and they will get much harder over time. After 96 hours, remove the cardboard or butcher paper and allow normal use.

DO NOT DRAG HEAVY OBJECTS SUCH AS FURNITURE OVER ANY SEALED FLOOR TO AVOID DAMAGE FROM ABRASION TO SKID SAFE.

8. DO NOT CLEAN OR WASH YOUR NEWLY SEALED FLOOR BEFORE 96 HOURS.

9. DO NOT APPLY SKID SAFE OUTSIDE IF IT IS LIKELY TO RAIN WITHIN 4 DAYS.

10. NEVER APPLY SKID SAFE TO ANY AREA THAT WILL BE EITHER UNDER WATER OR WILL BE CONSTANTLY WET WITH WATER. SHOULD ANY SEALED AREA BECOME WET FOR TOO LONG USUALLY EXCEEDING 5 DAYS. IT MAY TURN WHITE TEMPORARILY UNTIL THE WATER DRIES. THEN, IT WILL TURN BACK TO BEING CLEAR.

11. Note that high humidity will extend the drying times and will delay and extend the curing times! Apply SKID SAFE in conditions of moderate to low humidity for better drying results.

12. When and how can you walk on the floor? A. Do not allow water on the floor until CURED. B. FAST USE: Cover the dried application with a cardboard and mask it down so it cannot be kicked around by normal foot traffic. After at least 8 hours of further drying, then, the cardboard may be walked on until the floor is CURED. Then, remove the cardboard and use the floor in a normal manner. C. Or, close the floor from use until it has CURED.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE WITH ND AGGREGATE™ TO CREATE TRUE TRACTION NON SLIP SURFACE:

We highly recommend that you practice and develop your technique to properly apply the aggregate on to our SKID SAFE
by test applying it to any loose tiles, or small floor area before proceeding with the entire job area. Apply SKID SAFE following all of our directions to a section of the floor. Apply a first coat of SKID SAFE to a small area of the floor (using a quality sponge mop which has been pre-washed and is thoroughly dried) so that it is easy for you to stand over it and broadcast ND AGGREGATE™. While SKID SAFE is still wet hold a small amount of the aggregate in your hand and throw it straight up
- slightly. The aggregate will fall evenly over this wet SKID SAFE area. Then, apply another small area of SKID SAFE and repeat the above process until the entire floor area has been sealed with a first coat of SKID SAFE with the broadcast of our ND AGGREGATE™.

Use a fan or a blower (rent or buy at a janitorial store) to help blow dry each coat of SKID SAFE. Open windows for ventilation. Apply in low to moderate humidity. High humidity will greatly increase the drying and curing times. Each coat should now dry in about 20 minutes or less.

When the first coat is absolutely dry use a LOW PRESSURE SPRAYER (about 35-65PSI) to apply coats 2-6 so as not to disturb the aggregate which a sponge mop will. Consult with any hardware or janitorial store to purchase a low pressure sprayer. Each successive coat must be absolutely dry to the touch before applying the next coat. After the entire 6 coat of SKID SAFE is completed, 96 hours more time is needed to allow our finish to CURE (GET VERY HARD ). If you cannot close the floor to foot traffic for the next 96 hours, cover the floor with a cardboard masked down to enable foot traffic after 8 hours of drying time. Remove the cardboard after 4 DAYS. Use normally.

VERY IMPORTANT:

Do not use yellow colored sponges either new or used with rough surfaces to spread SKID SAFE. Use a smooth surface urethane type sponge material, which is commonly available at hardware/paint, and at janitorial supply stores. Pre-rinse the sponge and allow it to thoroughly dry before dipping it in SKID SAFE. Use a painters foam pad brush for applying SKID SAFE to walls and for touch ups to any area. Rinse and allow the foam pad brush to dry out before use.
Keeping the sponge/pad resting in a quantity of WET SKID SAFE, as in the bottle/container, will prevent the sponge/pad from drying out while you are waiting for any single coat of SKID SAFE to dry out thoroughly on the floor/wall. The sponge/pad will NOT dry out in wet SKID SAFE as long as there is wet SKID SAFE soaking the entire area of the sponge/pad! Wring out excess wet SKID SAFE from the sponge/pad before applying the next coat so that the tool is damp with SKID SAFE, not dripping wet in SKID SAFE.

A brand new cotton mop can be used to apply SKID SAFE to floors. Pre rinse it and allow it to thoroughly dry out before applying SKID SAFE. Keep it stored in a quantity of SKID SAFE/bucket to prevent the cotton mop from drying out between coats.

It is extremely important NOT to rub SKID SAFE around on the floor or wall with the tool! Simply move the tool across the area in one direction until you do not see any more wetness, then, re wet in SKID SAFE, and continue. Allow each coat to be thoroughly DRY TO THE TOUCH before applying the next coat. If you choose to apply SKID SAFE directly into your grout lines, use a foam pad.

The spread rate of SKID SAFE will vary based upon the porosity of the floor material that is being sealed and the number of coats being applied. Porous materials which are not presently sealed such as wood, concrete, paints, ceramic tile/grout lines, marble and other stones, vinyl, and paint may have a typical spread rate per coat of SKID SAFE Water Based Sealer/Finish of the following:

First coat: 400 +sq.ft. per gallon, Second coat: 800 sq. ft. per gallon, Third coat: 1600 sq.ft. per gallon, Fourth coat: 2000+ sq.ft. per gallon. FOUR COATS ARE REQUIRED.

Six coats are required when using ND AGGREGATE™ and the approximate spread rate will exceed 2000 sq. ft. per gallon for the Fifth and Sixth required coats.

MAINTENANCE DIRECTIONS:

1. Use a light dilution of a neutral cleaner that you have pre-tested that will neither strip nor dull the high gloss of our finish, or use just a plain water. SKID SAFE may be cleaned daily. The use of anything but a NEUTRAL CLEANER will dull or strip SKID SAFE. We suggest a light scrub with a scrubbing machine or nylon brush and the use of a wet vac to easily pick up all wet residues. SKID SAFE can also be cleaned with a power washer.

2. Cleaner residues allowed to dry on SKID SAFE will dull the high gloss in time.

3. Use a disinfectant known not to harm plastics/finishes. A disinfectant sprayed on the floor near a urinal area can strip or damage SKID SAFE in time.

4. Should any area of a floor become dull over time or worn, the easiest procedure is to reapply more SKID SAFE over the clean worn/dull area. It will blend into the rest of the floor and match the high gloss elsewhere on the floor. Apply a new coat of SKID SAFE over the floor to restore the high gloss on the entire floor.

5. SKID SAFE can be burnished to restore much of the high gloss with a low speed machine (175-300 RPM) with a red pad and a 4-1 dilution of SKID SAFE with water spray misted over the floor area before burnishing. This will also remove scuff marks.
Then, use a white pad with the same low speed floor machine to polish the floor which will restore gloss. CAUTION: Burnishing the floor will reduce the level of high gloss as it originally appears. Use our cleaner to remove scuff marks. Apply a fresh coat of SKID SAFE over a part or over the entire floor for highest gloss.

6. SKID SAFE does not require stripping! However, it can be stripped with a stripper, and selected areas could be stripped with sandpaper in seconds.

WARNING: THIS PRODUCT CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO FREEZE IN THE CONTAINER AS IT WILL BE RUINED WHEN THAWED!
